User replacable hard-drive for MacBook

Thursday, May 18th, 2006

Below the two RAM slots (at the base of the battery cavity) is where you’ll find the MacBook’s hard disk drive. Without disassembling the notebook, users will be able to quickly removing some protective aluminum shielding and lift the drive out of the computer.

Apple’s previous line of consumer notebooks, the iBook, required that an authorized service provider perform all hard drive replacements

Replacing the HD in a MacBook is easy. This is good news.

Domentia

According to LeapFish the colib.com domain I own is worth $15,914. Sweet jesus, anybody want to buy it?

This domain, paulmwatson.com, is worth $3,902. I doubt there is a single Paul M. Watsons in the world who would pay that for it.

All of this is highly dubious. It is an automated assesment and doesn’t take into account actual demand. For instance my WebTwoZero.com domain only comes in at $3,038 yet I would say more people would be interested in it than the colib.com domain.

Multiline Search And Replace

Wednesday, May 17th, 2006

Finally! Microsoft have listened and implemented multiline search and replace in one of their tools. This is the CTP1 release of Expression Web Designer.

One negative for Expression Web Designer so far however is that there is no full-screen mode like you get in Visual Studio (and Eclipse and every other IDE out there.)

Bland as fake snow

Snow Patrol - Eyes OpenSo don’t rush out and by Eyes Open by Snow Patrol. The band has been raved about and I finally got around to them with this album. I haven’t listened to Final Straw, their previous album, but pretty much any album would be less bland than Eyes Open. It is nice. Nothing terrible but I was expecting more distinction. It reminds me of what happened to Coldplay when they went big. Rush of the Blood to the Head was wonderful but X&Y turned out to be a safe play. Nice but not great.

Rather head out and get Inside In Inside Out by The Kooks. That album rocks.

Flickr have redesigned, cleaning up their pages in the process and giving a fresh spin to it all. It is an interesting mix of web-app and website.

They have also jokingly gone from BETA to GAMMA.

The MacBook has landed

Apple MacBook 13.3 laptop

Apple have finally released what I have been waiting for; the 13.3″ MacBook. It replaces the iBook line and has a different casing to the MacBook Pros. I priced one at €1,419 (2.0Ghz, 1Gb RAM, 60Gb HD) which for a Mac is wonderfully cheap. My only gripe is that the HD is just a 5400RPM, I’d have preffered some 7200RPM options.

I’ll wait for some reviews but my card is cocked and ready to bring me into the Mac fan-club.
