In Cold Blood
Sunday, August 20th, 2006Earlier this Sunday evening I watched Capote. In cold blood, indeed.
A handful of films only are able to show an actor as an artist. Hoffman was one in this, above the director, beyond the succinct cinematography.
As the film ends one is told Truman Capote never finished another book. It would seem this is the price he paid for what he did to finish In Cold Blood.
Delicious full text search
Sunday, August 20th, 2006A friend has a really good idea. Allow users to do a full-text search across the sites they have bookmarked. Wether that be your Firefox/IE bookmarks or your del.icio.us/Blinklist links. With systems such as Rollyo this would not be hard to do.
Rollyo is a good idea but I never use it as the link between the sites I visit and value and the sites in my custom Rollyo search engine is not automatically updated. If Rollyo would monitor my Blinklist links adding sites as I blink them I’d have good reason to use Rollyo. Integration into Firefox(through the search textbox top right) or Blinklist would be ideal.
(Rollyo does have a “bookmark importer” tool but it isn’t automatic and only works with your Firefox bookmarks, not del.icio.us and co.)
S3Fox
Sunday, August 20th, 2006S3Fox is an extension for Firefox that gives you an FTP like view of your Amazon S3 account. You can upload and download files, view their URLs, create “directories” (S3 doesn’t technically support directories within buckets and so this has to be faked) and set the Access Control List on items.

Sunday, August 20th, 2006Google Voicemail
Saturday, August 19th, 2006I am not a big voice fan but I must say the new voicemail feature in GTalk is dead handy. Here you can see one that a friend sent to me. It arrives in your gmail inbox as a message with a nice Flash based player.
Instant RSS, just add IM
Saturday, August 19th, 2006Here is a fascinating and useful service; Sabifoo. Add the Sabifoo botto your instant messanger contact list. Send it a message and it creates an RSS feed as well as a web page, structured like a blog. No other setup is required. No usernames, passwords or email addresses. Just add and start sending IMs to it. Very cool idea.
I see it working best for personal lists and quick note-taking.
Still on Sabifoo it shows an interesting form of authentication. By using your IM to send commands you are veryfing who you are. You have logged into your IM and so any messages to Sabifoo are coming from you. Nice idea.
