A waste of paper

Maybe I am thick but the waste management system here in co. Waterford is a tad confusing. Or at least the information online is confusing to me.

Outside our house we have two bins; a brown bin for organic waste and a grey bin for refuse. There is no green bin for recycling.

The information online is confusing because you can get tags for a year to stick on your bins (but I don’t see any mention of tags for green bins) or you can get labels which vary in use. We’d rather go with the tag, pay one big fee per year and leave it at that.

The application forms online though seem to be for people who don’t have bins or only have a grey bin. Not for people who have two of the three bins but no tags.

So how do I get the tags for the grey and brown bins and how do I get a green bin and do I need a tag for it?

Call them. About the only 'government' thing that we can do online in this country is pay our car tax, anything outside of that be prepared to spend a morning on the phone to sort it out. Alternatively, take a morning and go down there and watch all the lovely people queuing...

As far as I know, the county council recycling goes into large clear plastic bags which you apply stickers to when you put them out. I think you can by the bags and stickers at lots shops in the county.
I'd presume there are private collectors in your area also. The local governments were running radio ads advising everyone to ensure that any private collectors were properly licensed.
Yearly vs. weekly payments: there are supposed to be use-based charges. I think the CoCo use volume (you pay for a full bin every time you put it out), others use weight-based charges. All probably have a minimum annual charge.
I haven't called them very often, but I have found the CoCo to be pretty efficient on the phone (maybe I've just been lucky).
