I am very glad to see Nokia copying the iPhone. The iPhone is a fantastic device because it grabs mobile UI by the scruff of its dirty neck and drags it kicking and screaming into the future. Naysayers complain about feature X or limitation Z but bollocks to that, they can’t see the wood for the trees. An open Nokia phone with an iPhone like UI is good news for everyone.
This past weekend at a wedding I had a 4 year old surfing the web on the iPhone and then a 55 year old plotting her trip home on the Map application. They both figured the device out in a few minutes. Pinching, zooming, panning, typing, the works. Only one person complained about the iPhone and only because he wants the pull-out screens from Earth Final Conflict. I’d love to see a 4 your old trying to get a Nokia N95 working.
