People who shouldn’t buy hacked iPhones

I got a phone call from Ontario, Canada at five this morning. I thought it was my alarm going off and nearly answered it. No close friends or family have an Ontario, Canada number though so I just declined the call and rolled back over to sleep.

On arriving at work later in the morning I found a desperate email in my inbox from the chap who phoned me at 5am. It turns out this poor chap bought a hacked iPhone and then used the dreaded Zyb service. Zyb effectively kills your iPhone SMS functionality. To fix it you need to, at least, SSH into your iPhone and at best SCP files off and know how to open SQLite files.

After a few months of using a hacked iPhone I have to say it isn’t for everyone. If you aren’t married to a geek or are a geek yourself then it could turn out to be a frustrating experience. You can’t go to Apple and ask them to fix any problems that may occur.

I really wouldn’t recommend a hacked iPhone to anyone who isn’t a geek. Be patient, wait for it to launch in your country and then enjoy.

And please, don’t phone me at 5am, I am not a morning person.
