Warner’s music service would be free, with the costs of songs being offset by the purchase of devices for the music to be played on.
Warner obviously didn’t read Apple’s Q4 report. 10 gazillion iPods sold, a 17% increase, leaving Apple with 77% of the music player market.
Note to Warner; Because of iTunes and the iPod I have gone from buying 4-6 CDs a year to buying 2-3 CDs a month. There is no other reason than the ease of iTunes and the joy of using an iPod. Your music hasn’t got a whole lot better, your prices haven’t dropped. With iTunes I have a painless music experience. And it fully supports what Radiohead did, I just imported their album into iTunes and less than 30 seconds later it was on my iPhone sitting next to music I bought from iTunes, free podcasts from the net and the CDs I have bought and ripped over the years.
All that is left, Warner, to make my music experience complete is the complete removal of DRM from iTunes. Apple seems willing to do it, you are the one preventing it.
I am not going to buy your new device unless it is an iPhone killer, replaces iTunes with something superior and makes me scrambled eggs with toasts in the morning.
