Harry Potter and the Deathly Ego

“Unlike every other book, you cannot remove elements of this book.”

Excuse me while I go and burn every book I’ve read. The Tolstoy, the Roth, Tolkien, Rushdie, Márquez and so on. I shall then rebuild my collection around Harry Potter and rededicate my life. Such greatness cannot stand amongst the other piffle, movie adaptations or not.

I do hope J.K. Rowling had a word with David Heynam after this daft quote of his. Surely she would not claim her work is of such composed brilliance that the removal of one single element would bring it crashing down.

I like the Potter films, they are entertaining. I tried to read a Pottter book once but I really do think 500 pages is one or two too many for the story. No harm there, they simply aren’t for me.

The news story ends with: The “Potter” film franchise has pulled in $4.5 billion at the worldwide box office

David, I think that is why you “cannot remove elements” and feel inclined to produce two movies out of the final Potter book. Cash it in baby while you still can.
