Web 2.0 insight

To make ReadBurner even more useful, they’ve integrated Google Reader within the web site. By clicking on the Google Reader tab, your Google Reader will appear right in the ReadBurner interface, something which makes feed reading and sharing even more enjoyable than before.

Sounds good, doesn’t it? I imagine the integration adds capabilities to Google Reader and helps breaks down the two silos of ReadBurner and Google Reader.

Unfortunately the level of web 2.0 “reviews” from sites such as TechCrunch, ReadWriteWeb etc. is that an iframe showing Google Reader in ReadBurner is called “integration” and “makes feed reading and sharing even more enjoyable.”

For that is all that ReadBurner does. A tab with an iframe pointing at reader.google.com. I’m not knocking ReadBurner much, I doubt they hype that feature of their site.

It is the unconditional love that web 2.0 blogs lavish on web 2.0 sites that is irking me.

All I am asking is that ReadWriteWeb and co. take an objective and critical view on the sites they write about. An iframe is not integration. If they don’t want to be negative then don’t write about the feature at all.
