Movie: Nacho Libre

Nacho Libre (2006)

It is set in Mexico, it has Jack Black, crazy wrestlers, nuns, orphans, cacti and tight-pants. Sadly most of it is flat and dull with the odd laugh out loud moment. It really is funny in those moments but they are too few and far between.

Sorry Jack, your Mexican accent is lousy, you look strange in tights and the monastery is not the place for you.

Movie: A Cock and Bull Story

A Cock and Bull Story

A movie about the making of a movie on The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy which is laugh out loud funny. Though very much in a British way, so if dry humour doesn’t float your boat, avoid. I genuinely came to dislike the main character, which is intentional and very well done.

Textmate of death

Thursday, November 2nd, 2006

TextMate updated for the second time in a week. The main change is logged as:

[REMOVED] TextMate no longer pays tribute to human sacrifices, rape, nor does it show a picture of the God of the deaths in your dock — ticket 945BEB5D

I can’t find the ticket but that is hilarious. I hope whoever posted the ticket had tongue firmly in cheek.

(And TextMate is working out well for me, a very good text editor. The halloween theme was great.)

Just you

Read on Nabble - Ruby and CruiseControl

Johan: Maybe it’s just me, but wouldn’t it be nice to be able to define an ‘inline’
antbuilder task - e.g. contain ant tags directly within the CC
config.xml file?

Jeffrey: I think that would make sense for a very limited audience…. Very
limited. Like just you.

Kottke’s website no longer gives him pleasure.

Stop.

Wife recommends stopping.

Funny florists

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

I really enjoy how businesses are lightening up in the modern era. Stiff collars are being loosened, walls pulled down and the sausage making business revealed with the “we are as human as you” disclaimer working well.

Case in point is an email I got from NetFlorist today. It started thus:

We couldn’t think of anything humorous to say about Proteas and Gerberas
they are fantastic value at R150 and R160 respectively but just not really
funny flowers (unlike strelitzias, for example, which are just hysterical).

So, we thought we’d tell you a joke:

Q: What goes ha, ha, ha … bonk?
A: A man laughing his head off

The good news is that we are much better florists than comedians.

Terrible humour but rather clever as it leaves me feeling familiar and friendly towards what is a large corporate.

It’s inconceivable!

Thursday, June 1st, 2006

The whole movie is inconceivable. The Princess Bride that is. What a strange, funny and wonderful movie. Completely tongue in cheek, reminding me of a saner Monty Python.

So now various friends can stop bugging me to see it. I’ve seen it, I liked it, you were all right.

On Titanic

Thursday, May 4th, 2006

While the actual ship sank in about two hours and 40 minutes, the damn movie ran for almost three-and-a-quarter hours.

That is the best comment about Titanic I have ever read.
