News in photography
Tuesday, June 6th, 2006Does anybody else think that the photographic world has become deathly boring of late? I keep tabs on DPReview and a few other photo news sites and haven’t read an interesting development in months. Take a look at the latest news from DPReview; A Sony DSLR that does nothing new, the Nikon D2Xs which is a subtle upgrade, some Nikon security software, HP and Fujifilm digicams that have no redeeming value, Microsoft’s JPEG competitor which is dead before it starts, conjecture about Canon and its film cameras… and then I fell asleep. The Luminous Landscape has its usual interesting stories but they aren’t really news or developments in the industry.
A year ago we were going nuts keeping up with Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Sony and the lads. It was exciting and fast paced. Today though we find ourselves with a strong, stable and developed line of cameras with little innovation happening. It isn’t a bad place to be but it is dull for anyone wanting to report photographic news.
